Kauai (pronounced kuh-wah-ee) is the
oldest, prettiest, and most luxuriant major island in the chain.
Located at
the northwestern end, Kauai, with its jewel-like beaches
and uninhabited valleys is a place you should not miss.
Along the north shore are misty cliffs that plunge precipitously
into the sea; from the island's center rises a mountain
that
receives more rainfall than any place on the earth; and
along Kauai's southern flank there's a startling desert region
reminiscent of the old Southwest.
Kuauai is the Hawaii
that many visitors seek, but never
actually find. It is the perfect place to spend a relaxing
vacation far away from the hustle and bustle of the more
crowded islands. You can take a boat ride up the Pali
coast and go snorkeling, you can ride a horse-drawn carriage
around
a plantation-era sugar estate, you can hike throught
the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon, or you can
just
count the grains of sand on an endless secluded white beach.
